The Império do Espírito Santo de São Carlos, located in the parish of São Pedro, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, was built in 1814. This bicentennial brotherhood celebrates its feast in honor of the Holy Spirit in September/October, with the coronation on the last weekend of September. It arose after a volcanic crisis in 1761 that threatened Terceira Island, and the people attributed their protection to the Holy Spirit. The festivities, which last 8-9 days, include religious and cultural activities. The event is notable for the distribution of food, activities for children, and the traditional bullfight, attracting many visitors.
