LAR DOCE LIVRO – Bookshop, Café & Poste Restante

Bookshop-café serving light meals and offering a wide selection of wines, beers and cocktails. Open seven days a week, 363 days a year, it hosts more than 50 cultural events every month – from book launches and poetry evenings to concerts, DJ sets, debates and film screenings – as well as offering an extensive range of handicrafts and souvenirs.

A popular destination for book lovers from the Azores, Portugal and abroad, it aims above all to be an intimate, comfortable and welcoming haven for everyone, from first-time readers to bestselling authors and even Nobel Prize winners. It also features an Olga Tokarczuk Bookshelf, inaugurated in the presence of the author herself.

Lar Doce Livro also runs a small publishing house, hosts a cultural association – which organises an international literature and history festival – produces several weekly podcasts, and offers literary tourism experiences throughout the city and the island.
